Twin brothers Brock and Brandon Mier's need for speed was satisfied at Watermelon Days with a spin on the McDermott Family Show's kid car ride. The boys are the grandsons of Judy and Wayne Heimgartner of Quimby.

The food stand operated by Quimby's churches kept people supplied with plenty of carnival fare at the Watermelon Days Festival. A lot of folks couldn't resist dropping in and sampling the exceptional cuisine, a menu that included hot dogs, coneys, taverns, drinks, bars and cake. Cole Timmerman, for example, was particularly fond of the food stand's hot dogs.

The McDermott Family Shows provided a lot of carnival rides at Quimby's Watermelon Festival. Young Anthony Simmons was one of the young equestrians who couldn't resist going for a spin on the merry-go-round with his grandma Corliss.

At any given Quimby Watermelon Festival, you are sure to find Dale Harvey's Incredible Ice Cream Machine in place cranking out plenty of the home-made treat. Adam Stines is one of those visitors who considers no Watermelon Day complete without a cup or two of the frozen confection.

The Siouxland Idol Contest at Quimby's Watermelon Days attracted nine hopeful songsters. Among those competing was Michael Clark who received some last minute advice and encouragement from Fox 44's Idol emcee "Jackie." As his number, Clark sang "Against All Odds."

The theme for this year's kiddie parade at the Quimby Watermelon Days was "Nursery Rhymes." Among the youngsters taking part were radical rodents McKenzie, Karen and Brittany Meyer whose "Three Blind Mice" fit the category quite appropriately.

The Midway games always provide a lot of excitement. At Quimby Watermelon Days, Rebecca Cowan received some help from her dad Wade as she tried to win at the shooting game.

A carnival always offers an exotic variety of food for one and all. At Quimby Watermelon Days, while her friend Matt Frye of Washta looked on, Cherokee's Courtney Hatch easily tackled an order of apple slices and caramel sauce, a side dish that combines fruit and dessert into one dandy snack.
