June 18 Storm Damage

High winds -
A powerful thunderstorm rolled through Cherokee County early on the morning of June 18, 2009, leaving downed trees and branches in its wake. Damages were reported throughout the county and the storm also caused a blackout of power for much of Cherokee. Pictured is a tree that fell on a home located on Ninth and Main Street in Cherokee.

No longer standing
This fallen tree was on a property located at West Bluff and Gillette Drive in Cherokee. It fell down after a powerful thunderstorm came through Cherokee.

Too close for comfort-
David and Patty Skou of Aurelia had an unexpected surprise on the morning of July 18th, when a tree from their front yard split and fell onto their house during a morning thunderstorm which produced winds up to 60 miles per hour.

Cleaning off the streets -
The City of Cherokee Street Department was busy cleaning of downed branches that fell on many streets through out Cherokee.

Chipping in --
Aurelia city workers were kept busy chipping branches and limbs throughout the town following a severe thunderstorm on Thursday morning.

Traffic control -
The Cherokee Police Department was on the scene to control traffic on Eleventh Stree while the Cherokee Street Department cleared debris following a June 18th morning storm.

Clean up begins -
Winds of up to 60 m.p.h. were responsible for a great deal of damage to trees in Aurelia. Clean up began Thursday morning in the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that went through Cherokee County.

Power off -
Crews from Mid American Electric descended on Cherokee to restore power to the city on Thursday. Most of the electricity was restored by 9 a.m. but several homes and businesses near Bluff Street were without power for several more hours. Pictured above are trees that fell onto the power lines in the alleyway behind West Bluff Street. The trees also knocked over the pole that held the lines.
