Soggy start -
The Cherokee County Fair got off to a soggy start on Thursday, due to overnight and early morning thunderstorms. But even though the ground may have been damp, it did not dampen the spirit of the many fair goers who attended the first day of the 2009 Cherokee County Fair.

Family fun -
There was a lot of family fun happening on the midway at the Cherokee County Fair on Thursday, despite the cancellation of the Imperial Stunt Drivers show, due to the wet and muddy condition of the ground. Many families who came to see the show instead spent time playing the games and riding the rides.

Pride of Iowa Contest -
The 4-H Pride of Iowa Contest was held in the north 4-H building at the Cherokee County Fair on Thursday. In that contest several area 4-H participants served up recipes that featured Iowa based product and demonstrated their culinary skill by providing samples for both judges and the public.
