The town of Marcus had a "Family Fun Night" on Thursday July 16 , 2009, and two days later, the Marcus Arena staged a Horse Show ... all just a warm-up for the upcoming Marcus Fair in August.
Fun activities -
Two blocks of downtown Marcus were blocked off on July 16 so whole families could have a fun evening together, including playing a variety of games. Everyone took turns jumping and sliding on inflatible rides, as well as participating in more old fashioned-type games.
Fun day goodies -
Grace Methodist Church held a bake sale in conjunction with Marcus family fun night to raise money for the group's mission work when they return to Haiti. The selection of baked goods was enormous, making the selection difficult .
Out for a stroll -
Supervised by their mothers, left to right, Cloe Alesch, Gage and Gunnar Johnson and twins Michael and John Schmillen, are all taking in Marcus ' Family Fun Night.
So goood -
Booklyn and Riley Miller enjoyed their hot dogs on Marcus Main Street. Everyone could enjoy a hotdog along with chips and a pop for a $1 before indulging with the fun things to do. The local merchants went all out for fun.
Time for a hot dog -
Enjoying a hot dog is not limited to the younger set, and many adults took time out to enjoy one while chatting with friends at tables provided by the Fun Night committee. From the left are John and Donna Leavitt and Bill Sillau.
Beautiful sight -
The Northwest Iowa Horse Association held a competition at the Marcus arena last Saturday with over 40 horse trailers sitting around the arena. Folks came from may miles to gain experience in competing and share their beautiful animals. Some of the smaller classes competed on the grass area to the north of the arena.
Trotting around -
Many people of all ages competed in Saturday's horse event in Marcus. The arena is enjoying a reputation which draws people from a large area around Marcus. Dean Drefke of Marcus does the announcing , which keeps him busy doing what he truly likes as a hobby.
How about a ride? -
Austin Whited pulled the reins as his younger brother, Branden, took charge of the saddle riding. Kids like the idea of a horse ride.
