Wednesday, August 5, 2009
Late on Sunday night August 2, strong winds again hit Cherokee County, causing several trees and branches to fall and some brief stoppages of electric power. Most of the towns in the county were affected by the storm.
Downed sign -
Pictured above is a billboard that was blown down due to the high winds. The billboard was located at the intersection of Hwy 59 and the Hwy 3 bypass north of Cherokee. You can see how far the billboard traveled it was hanging next to the sign in the background that is still standing.
Went bump in the night -
This Marcus home at 209 North Beech sustained considerable damage to the northeast corner of their home as the wind tumbled a large tree onto their front wrap-around porch during the night.
Where did the steps go?
The large tree had two good size branches that tumbled down on the porch at the home located at 209 North Beech in Marcus. The railing and roof took a major hit. Many folks were busy picking up branches all day Monday.
