Cherokee County had three high school jazz bands which qualified for this year's Iowa State Jazz Festival on April 13.
The Aurelia Jazz Band was awarded a 4th place finish at the Class 1A Iowa Jazz Championships here Tuesday.
Also in 1A, Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn earned an 8th place finish, while Cherokee claimed 8th place in Class 2A. The top eight places in all four classes at the Iowa Jazz Championships receive trophies.
Four Aurelia band members received Outstanding Soloist Awards, including Ashley Anderson, Stacie Glienke, Audrey Winterhof, and Lexy Tuttle.
MMC's Melissa Tabke also received Outstanding Soloist honors.
For Cherokee, Paige Stieneke (trombone) andJacob Lewis (trumpet) received Class 2A Outstanding Soloist Awards, and Lewis also was named one of the four best Outstanding Soloists in 2A.
Lewis and MMC's Emily Bush (piano) also were recognized for their participation in the Iowa All-State Jazz Band.
The Aurelia Jazz Band is directed by Ryan Meyer, the MMC Jazz Band directed by David Moore, and the Cherokee Jazz Band directed by Paul McEntaffer.

The Aurelia Jazz Band was at its finest at the 1A Iowa Jazz Championships in Des Moines Tuesday, claiming a 4th place trophy.

MMC Jazz Band -
The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Jazz Band and director David Moore earned an 1A 8th-place trophy at the Iowa Jazz Championships.
MMC soloist -
Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Nathan Wendt was a featured soloist at the Iowa Jazz Championships.
Cherokee's Jacob Lewis was named an Oustanding Soloist and Outstanding Performer in Class 2A at the Iowa Jazz Championships.
Demi Dunn of Cherokee plays a flute solo as band mates John Bieber on bass, Alex Struck on drums, and Jake Spindler on trumpet, and the rest of the band, accompany her at the Iowa Jazz Championships.
The Cherokee Jazz Band and director Paul McEntaffer brought home an 8th-place trophy in Class 2A at the Iowa Jazz Championships.
The Cherokee Jazz Band was in a good mood after performing at the 2010 2A Iowa Jazz Championships in Des Moines on April 13.
