On the annual World Awareness Day at Roosevelt Elementary school, held this year on Friday April 23, students were encouraged to dress in costumes from around the world to promote all the different cultures.

All about the Philippines -
Magrey de Vega was the guest speaker in James Shima's fourth grade classroom. Rev. de Vega shared with the students the customs and values and the similarities that the Philippine people have with the United States as part of the World Awareness Day.
All about Haiti -
Jeannie Clubine talked about her trip to Haiti during the recent devastating earthquake with the fourth grade students in Vickie Freed's classroom as part of Roosevelt's World Awareness Day. Clubine told the students about her experiences and also shared a with a slide show of the earthquake victims.
All about Germany -
Fourth Grade students sat in Meribeth Adams' classroom and listened to Jeanne Blackstone speak about Germany during World Awareness Day at the Cherokee Roosevelt Elementary School on Friday. Blackstone taught the children about the German language and about the rich German heritage found in Iowa.
Food from around the world -
Students from Cherokee Roosevelt Elementary School attended the International Luncheon at the Cherokee Community Center on April 23rd, as part of World Awareness Day. During the luncheon the students had a chance to sample different food styled from all over the world. The luncheon won't have been possible if it weren't for all the volunteers who served and cooked the food that was featured during the day.
