It has become a tradition that the first day of the new school year at RV Elementary includes a flag raising ceremony. The members of the Washta and Quimby American Legion Posts who participated this year were Sam Jenkins, Arlen Tucker, Gene Keck, Jim DeWitt, John Perrett and Rich Ravnsborg.

The Kindergarten enrollment numbers at RV Elementary received an bit of a turbo boost when the Putzier quadruplets Ashlyn, Carter, Corben and Aubrey signed on for the 2009-10 school term. The quads were handling the whole education thing like old hands on the first day of school...possibly because their mom and dad (April and Chris Putzier,) were near at hand.

Spirits were high among both the staff and students on RV Elementary's first day of school. In this photo, fourth grade student Jesse Rodby is seen giving preschool teacher Amanda Etler a high 5 salute.

RV kindergarten teacher Lacey Pedersen was more than ready for the first day of school as she arrived laden down with supplies, teaching aids and other tools of the trade. This is Lacey's first year at River Valley.

The first day of school at RV Elementary was a family affair for some folks. Among those front and center for the launching of the 2009-10 school year was RV Elementary Reading Recovery teacher Shari Hansen and her resident tax deductions Parker, Bryar and Auree. For the next several months, the Hansen scions will be found in the sixth, fourth and kindergarten classes respectively.

During first day ceremonies at RV Elementary, Shirley Perrett and Mary Jo Roggatz, members of the Quimby and Correctionville American Legion Auxiliaries respectively, presented the school with new flags

As far as brothers and RV Elementary scholars Dylan and Austin Lewis are concerned, a good breakfast is the perfect way to launch a new school year. During the next school term, Dylan will be holding down a desk in the fourth grade classroom and Austin will be hitting the books in the environs of the first grade.

With a bevy of breakfasts and an avalanche of lunches to prepare, the first day of school at RV Elementary was a busy one for school cooks Elaine Stevenson and Cassandra Simmons.

RV third grade teacher Tonya Carstens won't have to go far this school year to keep track of her children Meagan and Colin. She will have to look no further than the RV Elementary third and first grade classrooms.
