G-H Cross Country (09/21/06)
SIOUX RAPIDS - The Pirates and Lady Pirates of Galva-Holstein ran well in cross country action at Sioux Central last week. The Lady Pirates finished third in the team standings, and the boys came in fourth. Southeast Webster won the girls meet with a excellent score of 28 points. Southern Cal-RCL was second with 48, G-H had 58, and host Sioux Central 114. Alta, Laurens-Marathon, and Schaller-Crestland did not have enough runners to be in team standings...

HOLSTEIN - The fourth-ranked Class 1A Galva-Holstein Pirates scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to knock district rival Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn on its heels and claim a 27-0 victory in a game shortened by thunderstorms here Friday. Tanner Gebers tallied two touchdowns to pace the 3-0 Pirates on runs of 36 and 34 yards. Elma A. Klingensmith, 93, of Washta, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Meadow Star United Methodist Church, rural Washta, with Rev. Bill Cotten officiating. Burial was at the Grand Meadow Cemetery.
