River Valley falls to Gehlen , 17-0 (09/26/06)
LeMARS- Coach Kent Bass' River Valley Wolverines took on "a very traditional program with a lot of success under their belt" Friday night when they met the Gehlen Jays here. Coach Bass said the Jays are again a very talented team this year but "I have a hard time believing they are 17 points better than we are." The Jays may not be 17 points better... but on Friday night, they did win the contest against the Wolverines by a 17-0 score...

Blanche H. Herron, 94, of rural Cherokee, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at 7:05 p.m. in the Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Primghar Cemetery at Primghar. ...

How about it? We seem to be getting rather "literary" here, of late -- last week a cautionary tale, this week a book review! Who's to say what's coming next?  But before I go further, I do want to pay a belated tribute to The Bookseller. I am well aware of the wise old adage that "Nothing is forever," but somehow, I kept expecting that delightful store to be the exception. ...
Ross Rambles: When is violent rage appropriate? (09/26/06)
One of my pet peeves is a person getting inappropriately angry over a minor annoyance. As a matter of fact, such behavior often prompts me to start smashing things with the hammer I keep in my desk drawer. It's all right to point out mistakes, but it's inappropriate to go on and on about unintentional errors, like when I accidentally pull out a person's fingernail with my pliers. Those things happen...
