Votes given by precinct (11/16/06)
The results of the election in Cherokee County will not become official until canvassed on Tuesday November 14 by the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors, but vote margins appear sufficient to confidently presume the outcome. Write-in votes were not a factor except for elections in which no name appeared on the ballot such as the county attorney race and some township races. For space elections that were uncontested and write-in totals are not provided here...
Remember Our troops! (11/16/06)
New Neighbors (11/16/06)
Several businesses have either opened new stores or relocated to the Chronicle Times "neighborhood" lately. First mentioned in our Sept. 22 issue, The Kid2Kids consignment store, owned by Alecia Maurer, has now moved from its former location on Fifth Street to 201 West Main Street, the former location of "House of Yours."
Area gets first taste of winter (11/16/06)
The state's first big winter storm buried parts of northern Iowa in up to 9 inches of snow Friday November 10, delaying or closing area schools. In Cherokee, unofficial estimates of the overnight snow placed it at 5 inches or more. An official reading from the fire department was unavailable because of the Veterans Day Holiday...
Struck Strikes Out: Head up, Mac, your dues are paid (11/16/06)
Although I can't claim to be a longtime friend because we ran in quite different circles, suffice it to say that I'm a proud acquaintance of Iowa State Cyclone football coach Dan McCarney. Winding Roads: Offices for sale (11/16/06)
Can you believe it? The money it takes to run for political office is astronomical. I really had no idea that the pay scale for fulfilling those offices was so great. I've never heard anyone I know say, "I want to be a politician when I grow up so I can become rich." Have you?...
A good turnout (11/16/06)
Over 50 percent of registered Cherokee County voters went to the polls on Tuesday, an impressive turnout for a non-presidential election year. County voters are to be commended for their high level of participation in the Democratic process. At the county level there were only two contested races, the board of supervisors district 3 contest and the board of supervisors district 4 contest...
