Wet weekend causes high waters (05/15/07)
May 4-6 was a wet and windy weekend in the area. The Cherokee Fire Department reported about four inches of rain over the weekend, and winds were estimated to have reached a speed of 40-50 miles per hour at their peak. The rain, on top of already high levels in creeks and rivers caused flooding in the area, although Southwest Iowa was harder hit...

Council deadlocked on fees (05/15/07)
After approving fire department fee adjustments, the Cherokee City Council was deadlocked 2 to 2 on a proposal to increase fees charged by the parks and recreation department. Council member Jim Peck was not present at the Tuesday meeting. Roger Frisbie, treasurer of the Cherokee Fire Department, presented fee change proposals in order to generate more revenue for the fire department. ...

Administrators are rather pleased with the report, which lists more positives than negatives, but the primary area in which the visiting DE team found fault has local school officials scratching their heads...
