The Cherokee City Council unanimously approved adoption of the proposed 2008-09 fiscal budget, totaling $8,429,527, at their meting on March 11. Of that total, $1,438,369 comprises the General Fund, including police and fire departments, library, Parks & Recreation, Oak Hill Cemetery, administration, and City Hall. The Cherokee Braves' fleet junior sprinter Kyle Schuett noses Estherville-LC's Matt Watt at the finish line in heated track and field action last season. Area preps began track and field practice in February and the Cherokee boys and girls kick off their 2008 season at the Lakes Conference Indoor at 5 p.m. on March 18th at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. It's almost springtime and word has it that home repair scams are operating at record highs throughout the United States, with their focus remaining on the elderly and naive.
