Patriotic artwork now at Sanford (08/05/08)
An award-winning line drawing by 2008 Washngtoh High School graduate Virginia Bird is now on display at the Sanford museum in Cherokee. Bird took first place in a state contest of patriotic art, sponsored by the VFW and VFW Auxiliary. Bird qualified for state competition by winning first place in local competition, and received a $50 prize from the local VFW and Auxiliary and a $500 check from the state organization...
New look at Lily of The Valley school (08/05/08)
The Lilly of the Valley School house received a fresh new look last week. The Cherokee Iowa Retired School Personnel Association received a "Keep Iowa Beautiful" grant in April to purchase 35 gallons of Diamond Vogel paint, and the paint was then used to paint the inside walls and ceiling and the exterior of the country school.
