Gospel Fest at Marcus Fair (08/07/08)
Music has always been a part of the Marcus Fair. This year will feature something new as a Gospel Fest has been planned from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in Progress Hall. Two very talented groups have agreed to share their musical talents with fair-goers. The first group hails from neighboring Meriden Evangelical Free Church, Meriden Free Singers, has been noted for singing in an uplifting singing style. They get everyone's toes tapping and bring smiles to people's faces...

The Marcus Fair Board has brought back hypnotist Jeff Quinn who entertained the Marcus Fair crowd in 2006. Quinn was quite a hit with the crowd as his program brings plenty of chuckles with good clean humor. He averages 350 performances a year whether at large conventions, universities or schools across the country...

This year's edition of the Marcus Fair will run from August 7 -10. Ladies may like to know that the north building at this year's Marcus Fair, August 7 -10. Centennial Hall will host a variety of interesting displays, so one may purchase items to remember the fair. The fair board thought there should be something more to entertain the female population Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m...

The O'Brien County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of David A. Johannsen, age 44, of Sutherland on July 27. Johannsen was the police chief of Sutherland at the time of his arrest. Charges of Theft in 2nd Degree, a felony; Conspiracy, a felony, and Theft in the 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, were filed by the Sheriff's Office and a warrant was issued...
Cherokee and RV have election contests (08/07/08)
Following the deadline for filing nomination petitions to be on the ballot for school board elections on Sept. 9, the Cherokee and River Valley districts have contested elections while the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn and the Aurelia districts do not.
