Aurelia School to share superintendent (08/18/08)
AURELIA - With the 2000-2009 school year set to begin for teachers on August 14, the Aurelia School Board met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday August 11th, to put together some of the final pieces of the puzzle regarding staffing. The Board received an update from President Dan Winterhof on the ongong search for a superintendent of schools, and learned that the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn school district has verbally agreed to share their Superintendent of Schools, Lynn Evans, with the Aurelia District. ...
Cherokee postmaster sworn in (08/18/08)
Kathy Fitzgerald took the oath of office as Cherokee's Postmaster on August 8, in a ceremony at the local post office. Kent Gochenour, Post Office Operations Manager for the USPS' Des Moines-based Hawkeye District, presided at the ceremony. Light refreshments were also served in honor of the occasion. DES MOINES - South O'Brien's Aphton Roberts, Alta's Jesse Bibler, and Sioux Central's Brooke Scharn were the only area players named to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union All-State softball teams announced this week. Funeral services for Paul R. Jones, 91, of Aurelia, were held on Monday, Aug. 18, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia, with Military Honors by Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established. Mason Pierce Leonard, 20, of Holstein, died on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 from injuries sustained in a two-car accident west of Holstein. Services were held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at Galva-Holstein High School Gymnasium with Pastor Bob Stout officiating. Burial was in the Holstein Cemetery.
