Backpacks to Mid-Sioux (08/20/08)
The Cherokee Rotary Club and Hy-Vee Stores presented 75 backpacks to Mid-Sioux Opportunity in Cherokee on Aug. 11, for distribution to the children of lower- income Cherokee County families, as the children return to school this fall. This is the third year that the Rotary Club has taken on this worthwhile project...
One wild plant (08/20/08)
Evelyn Sands of Cherokee planted a Cherry Tomato plant last May that a friend gave her. To her surprise the little plant grew to encompass half her flower bed and made it difficult to put her vehicle into her garage. The size of the plant is unexplainable, and no chemicals or fertilizers were used. Sands said that the only thing she had done to the plant is "water it once in a while." Photo by Mike Leckband...
Cherokee resident wins $500 in gas and groceries (08/20/08)
Little did Cherokee resident Ed Otto know that when he became a volunteer for Ducks Unlimited over 15 years ago that he would be walking away with $500 in groceries and gas from Hy-Vee. Michael Joseph Williams 25, of Ida Grove, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in a construction accident near Atlantic, Iowa. Michael was born on April 10, 1983 in Ida Grove.
