Local retailers do all right this Christmas (12/31/08)
Though the nation's headlines bemoan the terrible Christmas sales season this year and the local weather in December wasn't the best, most Cherokee retail business people reported pretty good sales. The Chronicle Times surveyed 15 local businesses for a few days before Christmas and most reported that their businesses don't seem to have been so adversely affected by the economic recession as those on the East and West coasts...

Christmas Gifts for CAASA (12/31/08)
The staff at Community Services in Cherokee recently decided that, rather than give Christmas gifts to each other this year, they would give gifts to the CAASA House instead, and they invited other agencies to do the same, if they chose. The staff and clients of Cherry House and staff members from The Pride Group and Cherokee County Work Services decided to join in, and as a result, a variety of items will be going to the CAASA House this year, for the use of the residents and their children...
Supervisors wrap up business for 2008 (12/31/08)
The Cherokee County Supervisors met on Dec. 23rd for their last meeting of 2008. Among the items on their agenda was the recommendation from County Attorney Ryan Kolpin to amend ordinance #2004-2. The ordinance deals with the Cherokee County Secondary Roads Right-of -Way concerning snow removal on rural roads. According to County Engineer Dave Shanahan, a lot of snow has been building up in ditches opposite of driveways and piling up next to the roads...
MMC boys drop 2 tough games (12/31/08)
The busy Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys basketball team played two tough War Eagle Conference foes on back-to-back nights last week, dropping an 80-66 verdict in Marcus to Remsen-Union Monday night, and falling 80-59 at Akron-Westfield Tuesday night. The A-W game was a make-up of the game postponed from Friday Dec. 18 due to inclement weather...
