Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Ronald G. Igou, 71, of Cherokee, passed away on Jan. 7, 2009 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center following a several month illness. Funeral services were held on Jan. 10, 2009, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Richard Arndt officiated. There were military rites by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the O'Brien-Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Calumet, at a later date...
Jazz & Blues Festival comes through again

The massive undertaking called the Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival was, once again, beautifully staged and celebrated this past weekend in Our Town, weather be damned. With horrendous icy conditions from the worst of winter weather in Iowa, enhanced by extremely bitter cold temperatures, it was thought that this year's Festival was wrecked and surely, organizers would be heart-broken, and the future of the popular event would be threatened from this year's lack of people and their revenue...

In our last issue we gave the particulars of a peculiar accident which befell Express Messenger Harry Pratt, who while sleeping swallowed three false teeth. As noted the operation to recover these was unsuccessful and the article foreshadowed the announcement of his death which occurred at the Cherokee Medical and Surgical hospital yesterday at 5:15 a.m. The plate in descending so lacerated the tissues that peritonitis ensued and this precluded hope of recovery...

AURELIA - Aurelia coach Grant Peckenschneider said his Bulldog team "played the best half we've played all year" in getting off to a 36-12 halftime lead over Schaller-Crestland in Northwest Conference boys'basketball action here on Jan.6. After the break, though, said the Bulldog coach, "We forgot to come out and give the same effort." As a result, the Wildcats cut the Bulldog's 24-point halftime margin in half at one point before the 'Dogs evened things out. ...
