We encourage area motorists to please slow down at unmarked, residential intersections in Cherokee. With the arrival of spring last Friday, longer days, and the school year in its final weeks, there will be many more vehicles on city streets and those unmarked intersections at all hours - especially in the west part of town where the school, Community Center, Country Club, Bacon Aquatics Center, renovated and enhanced Gillette Park and its large playground, and Mental Health Institute daily attract dozens and dozens of vehicles.. ...

Last week, the Local 179 chapter of the United Food and Commercial Works at Tyson Deli here in Cherokee, voted to accept their contract. I reported the results of that vote on page one of today's paper. Whenever the plant's contract comes up, it seems an unsure time for the community of Cherokee. Tyson is the leading employer in Cherokee County and it has been since the mid 1960's. The company was started by Wilson Foods and has changed ownership several times over the years...

WITCC to host Easter Bunny Photo Night (Local News ~ 03/26/09)
Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) will hold its annual Easter Bunny Photo Night fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 in the main entrance lobby area of the college's Cherokee Campus.
