Veterans Honor Flight fundraiser (05/08/09)
This Saturday Cherokee County Veteran Affairs Office and the VFW Club will holding a fundraiser and auction for the WWII Honor Flight that will go toward the veterans trip to Washington D.C. on June 2, 2009 from Sioux City. Everyone is encouraged to stop in at the VFW Club from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to eat a meal with a free-will donation going to the Veterans Honor Flight. There will be an auction at 7 p.m. with items donated from various businesses from around the community...
Supervisors amend county budget (05/08/09)
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on Tuesday for an amendment to the 2009 fiscal year. The amendment authorized funds to be redistributed from both the county's revenues and expenditures that have been altered by receipt of additional funds since the budget was certified. The changes brought the fund balance down $12,000, which as of June 30 would be a total of $2,516,628...

AURELIA - The 2009 Edition of the Aurelia Elementary School's Puppy Relays - the 50th annual edition - are scheduled to take place on Monday at the school's track, according to meet director Mike Fry. Congregate Meals (05/08/09)
Congregate Meals is a federally-funded program which provides a solid, nutritious meal for senior citizens. The meals are served five days a week at the Hy-Vee Store in Cherokee. The meals follow the food guidelines put out by the "Siouxland Aging Services," an agency based out of Sioux City. Beech Palmer is getting more than his share of broken limbs. Something over a year ago he had a limb broken which laid him up for many months. Tuesday he was hauling logs to the Warren saw mill which was in operation at the Chas Wilmott place in Spring when one end of a log slipped from the wagon and in swinging round struck Beech on the leg breaking it below the knee. ...
