'Imagination Library' Program benefits area youth (08/14/09)
A lot of young readers (and future readers) in Cherokee County got a big head start this week thanks to First Trust and Savings Bank, the Cherokee County Legacy Foundation, and Dolly Parton. The singer is the founder of "Dolly Parton's Imagination Library," where children aged 5 years and younger can have one book a month mailed to them until their fifth birthday, and the Cherokee County Legacy Foundation and First Trust banks of Aurelia, Marcus and Cleghorn have teamed up to make this wonderful program available to area pre-schoolers in the Aurelia and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn school districts.. ...
Supervisors canvass election results (08/14/09)
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Tuesday heard the recent County Jail vote totals from Katy Brauninger of the Cherokee County Auditor's Office. The report stated that out of 8,765 registered voters in Cherokee County, 1,497 voted in the special election, for a turnout of 17.08 percent of registered voters...

Cherokee Boosters Golf Tourney (08/14/09)
The Cherokee Athletic Boosters will stage their 7th annual Golf Tournament on Sunday, August 23 at the Cherokee Country Club. The format is "4 Person Best Shot," and golfers must register by Monday, August 17. The cost is $45 per player, and that includes 18 holes of golf, a buffet meal, and "lots of fun."...
Northey comments on Iowa crops and weather report (08/14/09)
DES MOINES -- Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey recently commented on the Iowa Crops and Weather report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistical Service. The report is released weekly from April through October. "Rain and warmer weather this past week was welcomed by farmers following a cool and dry July," Northey said. "Unfortunately another round of severe weather caused crop damage, this time in central Iowa."...
