Aurelia Heritage Society to replace trees at Heritage House (09/09/09)
AURELIA - At its annual meeting last week, the Aurelia Heritage Society Board of Directors heard Duane Kent's suggestions about possible trees to replace two storm-damaged trees at the Heritage House. Sanford Museum to host 'Astronomy Night' in Holstein (09/09/09)
The Sanford Museum and Planetarium in Cherokee will host a special astronomy night at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein on Friday beginning at 9 p.m. The event is being held in honor of Dave Lund, a former Cherokee resident now residing in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Lund was one of the Museum's original members of the Northwest Iowa Astronomy Club, and he enjoyed many nights star gazing with the group...

Farmers who have conservation practices that received severe damage from storm events in 2008 and 2009 are encouraged to apply for 75% cost share for repairs through their local Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD). The Division of Soil Conservation has set aside $3 million from bond proceeds to assist producers with repairs of their waterways, terraces, and windbreaks. ...

At the risk of sounding a bit "persnickety," I am about to express a very negative opinion of a household hint I read recently. The writer suggested that we should get rid of books after we had read them, concluding that, "Over the years, books essentially become clutter, taking up valuable storage space." That advice might apply to casual, trashy, paperbacks purchased on impulse, but I totally disagree if she was referring to most books...
CAEDC Action Report: State to review Mental Health facilities (09/09/09)
