4-H youth wrap gifts, make ornaments (12/02/09)
Members of the Cherokee Cavaliers 4-H Club were at The Gathering Place on Friday to help Christmas shoppers by gift-wrapping presents and making Christmas ornaments and decorations for their homes this yuletide season. In addition to helping the members of the community, the 4-H members will also benefit, as the voluntary donations given by the grateful shoppers will go directly to the ongoing Betterment Project at the Cherokee County Fair Grounds...

New acts bring variety to Jazz and Blues Festival (12/02/09)
The plans for the 10th annual Cherokee Jazz and Blues Festival have now been set, with the popular event taking place on Friday Jan. 8 through Sun. Jan. 10, 2010. And this year will feature the return, after a few years' absence, of one of the favorite entertainers from past Cherokee Festivals, New York City trumpeter Mark Pender and his band. Gladys Martha Rupp, 89, formerly of Cherokee, died on Nov. 24, 2009 at her home in Petaluma, Calif., where she lived since 2006 when she moved to be near her daughter, Ruth.
