Dan Bieber selected to Air Force Academy (01/11/10)
WASHINGTON -- Senator Chuck Grassley recently announced that Daniel Bieber of Cherokee has been selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. for the 2010/2011 school year. Bieber, the son of Jim Bieber and Joann Bieber of Cherokee, was nominated for the Academy by Grassley and Senator Tom Harkin. Representative Steve King had also nominated him for the U.S. Naval Academy, and Dan had applied at both academies...
Snow, strong winds shut things down (01/11/10)
The estimated 7-8 inches of additional snow which fell in the Cherokee area on Wednesday was very light and fluffy - not a good situation when coupled with winds estimated at 30 miles per hour and stronger, with gusts exceeding 45 mph. And sure enough, as forecast, strong winds blew into Cherokee County and the surrounding area through the night on Wednesday, and into late Thursday night creating hazardous driving conditions with the blowing, drifting snow and poor visibility...
Red Cross offers tips on how to stay warm during frigid temperatures (01/11/10)
Bone chilling temperatures have gripped much of the country, and the American Red Cross urges everyone to be safe and prepare as much as possible. Many are looking to cut down on expenses when temperatures drop and home-heating costs rise. Sanford Museum's third annual photo contest (01/11/10)
Cherokee Tiel Sanford Museum will begin displaying entries for the 2010 "Beauty of Northwest Iowa" photo contest today. A estamated 100 pictures from Northwest Iowa will be hanging in the West Gallery of the museum. The contest is open to both professional and amateur entries and no age limit was set. Entries must be original photos, taken by the entrant. The photos must be 8 x 10 inches in size and all photos are to be loose, no mats, frames allowed...
