The Cherokee Youth Football League (CYFL) is hosting a raffle fundraiser, now under way ,featuring as prizes a John Deere rider mower, and a Bronc Colt 49CC moped. The John Deere mower is an LA 105, 19-horse with a 42-inch deck valued at $1,499 retail, and the moped is valued at $1,099. Raffle tickets are $20 and the first winner gets their pick of the prizes. Looking ahead to the time when we can get to the trees in our yards, the late dormant period (February to early April) is a great time to prune deciduous trees. The absence of foliage at this time of year gives the home gardener a clear view of the tree and allows them to select and remove appropriate branches. This will also give everyone a chance to prune out the storm-damaged limbs and branches. Then you can evaluate the future existence of some of the more heavily damaged trees...

If they're tacked on to the end of the school year, they run into June and this wreaks havoc with distracted, non-attentive students, youth baseball and softball, students' summer jobs, family vacations, and, in some instances interference with a teacher's continuing education process...
