Landscape Tree Pruning Workshop (03/03/10)
In response to the damage suffered by many trees and shrubs from this winter's snow and ice storms, Cherokee County Extension is sponsoring a Landscape Tree Pruning Workshop on March 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. The workshop will focus on proper pruning techniques of storm damaged trees and shrubs as well as regular pruning to sustain and improve the health and appearance of a tree/shrub. Iverson is Sanford Artist of the Month (03/03/10)
Mary Iverson of Paullina is the featured Artist of the Month at the Sanford Museum for the month of March, and her oil paintings will be on display in the East Gallery at the Museum throughout the month. Iverson attended the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida from 1968 - 1971, then returned home to Paullina. Though she occasionally did some portrait work locally, she was kept busy raising her children and had to put her artistic plans on the back burner for several years...
Biermans receive award (03/03/10)
The Cherokee County Farm Bureau recently recognized Tim and Mary Bierman of Larrabee "For their outstanding service to agriculture in Cherokee County and to the U.S. Pork Production Industry," as it states on the plaque they received. The Biermans would have normally received the award at the March 13 Cherokee County Recognition Banquet, but they will be out of the country on that date. Effective with the summer 2010 softball season, the pitching distance for junior high and high school softball in Iowa will be increased from 40 feet to 43 feet from the tip of home plate to the pitcher's plate.
