Airplane part returned to family 55 years later (04/19/10)
On Jan. 21, 1955, Frank Booth, along with his son, Dale, were killed when their Piper Cub airplane crashed while spotting foxes for a group of area men who were hunting on the ground below. Cherokee School Board OKs $10,986,715 budget (04/19/10)
The Cherokee Community School District Board of Education unanimously approved the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year budget Monday night, carrying a Total Spending Authority (TSA) of $10,986,715. The approved budget establishes a levy rate of $15.14 per $1,000 of property tax valuation, compared to the last fiscal year's $14.34 levy, which is up 64-cents per $1,000. Students attending the library program at the Meriden-Cleghorn Community Library last week heard Mark Napier, right, explain the importance of water to everyday life. Students learned that water makes up 83% of our blood. Napier, who works at the Cherokee Water Treatment Plant, fascinated his listeners by sharing the steps involved in getting water to their homes: water is pumped out of the ground, chemicals are added, and the water is then pumped to one of the four water towers in Cherokee.The water is piped from those towers to homes and businesses. ...

Wellness Center Offers Lifeguard Classes (04/19/10)

As we settle into spring and summer and plan more and more outdoor activities, we caution residents to be aware of ticks - even the old fashioned "dog tick" - that can pass Lyme disease to its human host.
