Co-ed softball tourney to benefit cancer victim (08/23/10)
A benefit for Kelsie Peterson, a 2009 Cherokee Washington High graduate who was recently diagnosed with cancer, will be held Sunday, Sept. 5 in Cherokee. Organizers are planning a Co-ed Slowpitch Softball Tournament at Wescott Park in Cherokee that day, with proceeds benefiting Peterson to help defray mounting medical costs...
Correctionville anglers host second catfish marathon of the summer (08/23/10)
On August 14, the finny fellows from the Correctionville Little Sioux Fishing Club hosted their second All-Night Catfish Marathon of the summer. The little fact that the Little Sioux has been at high ebb the past several weeks didn't deter a convocation of Correctionville catfish cowboys and other sundry anglers from stampeding to the river's swamped-over soggy banks to compete bait can to bait can for top fisherman bragging rights...
'Peanut Safe Environment' implemented at Roosevelt Elementary (08/23/10)
According to the Cherokee School District, the number of American children affected by peanut allergies appears to be increasing. A study last year reported that the prevalence of peanut/tree nut allergies in the United States doubled from 1997 to 2002, and this has become an issue for the students of the Cherokee Community Schools. Chamber's 'Best of Cherokee' Photo Contest (08/23/10)
The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Promotions Team is seeking entries for the "Best of Cherokee" Photography Contest. The photos should illustrate life in Cherokee and possibly attract someone to visit or relocate to Cherokee. The contest started on April 1 and ends September 30. Photos will be judged by a jury panel and the winning photograph will be made into a special edition, Cherokee Postcard which will be sold by the Chamber of Commerce...
