Pork Burger lunch postponed (09/23/10)
The pork burger lunch scheduled for Thursday in the Hy-Vee Pharmacy parking lot has been postponed until Friday Sept.24, due to rain. The lunch, sponsored by Hy-Vee and the Cherokee County Pork Producers, will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). A free-will donation will be gathered to go to the Cherokee Lion's Club to enable them to build another paper collection box. The Lions collect paper from their drop-off boxes every Tuesday, and take it to the Cherokee landfill for disposal...
Annual Fall Family Festival is Saturday (09/23/10)
The Cherokee Depot Renovation, Inc. is hosting its 9th annual Fall Family Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the restored, Railroad Depot in Cherokee's Historic Downtown Entertainment and Cultural District. Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) has announced an all-time record enrollment for the fall semester. A total of 6,421 students have registered for classes, a 10.2 percent increase over fall 2009. Other records have been shattered this fall at WITCC. Cherokee Washington graduate Kara Nelson, now a senior at Morningside College, was the individual champion at the ISU Iowa Intercollegiate Cross Country Meet in Ames last Saturday. Nelson, the daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee, topped a field of 96 runners, including the varsity runners from NCAA Division I Iowa State, completing the 5k course in a time of 18:37. With a company that humbly began its operations in Cherokee three years ago, we have no qualms about it taking advantage of various incentives proffered by Storm Lake. ...
