Marketing farmers' fruits and vegetables (11/29/10)
Area vegetable and fruit farmers gained a lesson in aggregation and distribution of local foods and products recently when food system consultant Rink DaVee was featured in a forum titled "Truckbeds and Beyond." DaVee traveled from his farm in Mineral Point, Wis., to the Cherokee County Extension office to talk about the organization of his regional food distribution business and discuss some ideas for increasing sales and market opportunities for fresh local vegetables in Northwest Iowa...
Popular lighted Christmas Parade Thursday (11/29/10)
Cherokee's "Wonderful World of Christmas Parade" is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday through Downtown Cherokee. Floats will have a Christmas theme, colorful lighting, and music, and the annual Parade's overall theme is "Wonderful World of Christmas." Judging of the Parade entries will be during the Parade and awards will be given for the best use of lights, and overall creativity. Black Friday shopping (11/29/10)
Shoppers started early on Black Friday in Cherokee as they took advantage of holiday specials at area retailers like K-Mart. The term "Black Friday" was coined in the 1960s to mark the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season. Each year, Cherokee Regional Medical Center Auxiliary puts on the "Sweet Affair" holiday cookie sale as one of its annual fundraisers. The Sweet Affair is a great opportunity to purchase goodie trays for the holidays with each tray containing a wide assortment of cookies, candies and treats. Library 'Book Basket' bidding ends Saturday (11/29/10)
The Friends of the Cherokee Public Library 11th annual Book Basket Project for the 2010 Holiday Season is coming to a close for this year. Baskets are currently on display throughout the Cherokee Public Library. There are baskets for all price ranges, they are creative and beautiful, make great holiday gifts, and all of the proceeds go back into enhancing the library and its offerings...

Gasthaus "Tip Night" (11/29/10)

Deloris Julia Benson, age 82 of Cherokee, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation was held at noon on Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.. Sunday night.
