40th annual Needy Children Auction Saturday (12/17/10)
Stan Sitzmann invites the public to the 40th annual Needy Children's Fundraiser, to be held this Saturday at the Brightside Lounge. The event starts at 11 a.m. with a free bean and chili soup luncheon, followed by the auction, starting at 1 p.m. Sitzmann and many area volunteers have collected donated items from area merchants and other area residents to be auctioned off to raise money to purchase a complete outfit of clothing for more than 150 children in Cherokee County. ...
Budget strain among issues discussed by Board (12/17/10)
Cherokee County Community Services Director Lisa Langlitz addressed the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday with concerns about her department's General Relief Budget. Recently Langlitz's department had to supply general assistants for three burials and possibly two more. At a cost of $1,500 a burial, Langlitz reported that she is expecting those services to cost 89% of her General Relief Budget. For fiscal year 2010/2011 her budget General Relief Budget is $10,390...
