Cherokee School District sells old tennis courts to CRMC (07/14/11)
Monday night, the Cherokee School Board approved the sale of the parcel of land housing the old tennis courts to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center for $5,000. The dilapidated, seldom-used tennis located on Cherokee School District land on Sioux Valley Drive will soon be razed, and the land renovated to house a Respite/Hospice Garden area serving patients and visitors of the adjacent Cherokee Regional Medical Center...
RJ Thomas employees answer food pantry's call (07/14/11)
After hearing about a food shortage at the Cherokee Mid Sioux Opportunities Food Pantry, employees at RJ Thomas Manufacturing of Cherokee banded together and brought over $500 in food from monies raised from pop cans at their companies break areas. The employees purchased $250 in groceries from the Cherokee Hy-Vee Store it was then that Hy-Vee donated an additional $250 in groceries. ...
Young man answers the call of 'Forrest Gump' (07/14/11)
Dan Ross of Illinois left Chicago on April 15 to walk two-thirds of the way across America to the Oregon Coast. This week he made his way into Cherokee County and stayed Tuesday night in the home of Don and Gail Steffen of Marcus. His visit with them was arranged by the Steffens' son, Jerry. His route has brought him from Storm Lake and Alta to Cherokee and Marcus. Next he heads to Akron, and then Vermillion and Yankton, S.D...

In June, as part of a Practical Farmers of Iowa Field Day, 15 farmers and friends of farmers spent their Saturday afternoon roaming the pastures of Cherokee resident Nathan Anderson to learn more about rotational grazing. Not on the guest list but there anyway as if to say, "Hey, it's working!" were bobolinks and meadowlarks as well as a wide variety of native warm season grasses that hadn't been present the year before...

The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 7th Annual Golf Tournament at the Cherokee Golf and Country Club on Friday, July 22. Veteran Appreciation Day (07/14/11)
The 6th Annual Veteran Appreciation Day will be August 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cherokee County Fair grounds. The V.F.W. Post 2253 and Auxiliary will be hosting a delicious Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 23. The social will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m., and will be located at 113 E. Maple, Cherokee. The menu will consist of coney dogs, taverns, beans, chips, pie and, of course, ice cream. The V.F.W. Post will be asking for a free will donation.
