Successful youth deer hunt (09/23/11)
10-year old Caleb Wolterman recently harvested a buck in Cherokee County at 81 yards with his muzzleloader The deer scores 150 ." Caleb's father, Cory Wolterman, admitted that he was a little jealous because this is Caleb's fourth deer and Cory has been hunting for 28 years and has only had a couple of deer bigger than that of his son. Iowa's archery deer hunting season begins Oct. 1 (09/23/11)
CHARITON - One of Iowa's most popular hunting seasons begins October 1 when the archery deer hunting season opens. "We had over 57,000 bow-hunters last year and I expect we will have a similar number this year," said Tom Litchfield, state deer biologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. "Our herd is in good shape statewide, but hunters can expect to see fewer deer in most areas of the state."...

The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors received an update on the next phase of the Martin Access expansion project from Cherokee County Conservation Director Ginger Walker on Tuesday.
