Supervisors approve zoning request (11/14/11)
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met briefly on Tuesday. On their agenda was a request from Cherokee County Engineer Dave Shanahan for a Planning and Zoning change request. Shanahan reported to the Board that the Cherokee County Board of Planning and Zoning recently changed 22 acres in Section 10 and 11 of Pilot Township from an Agricultural Zone to a Heavy Industrial Zone for the Cherokee Industrial Corporation's new Railroad spur project...

Commission terminates landfill managers (11/14/11)
Cherokee County Landfill Manager Don Pitts and Assistant Manager Julie Mugge have been terminated by the Cherokee County Solid Waste Commission on the heels of the 2010-2011 Audit Report. The action was taken following a special meeting of the Solid Waste Commission on Oct. 26, and the official minutes of that meeting were not released by the Commission until Friday after Thursday night's regular meeting at the Landfill's Separation Center...
