'City Lights...Women's Night' coming (02/03/12)
CAASA's annual "City Lights...Women's Night" event will be held on Feb. 25 at the Cherokee Western Iowa Tech Community College Conference Center, with doors opening at 5 p.m. Earlier this week, Tim Haupert, Store Manager at the Cherokee Hy-Vee Store, presented Julie Schulenberg, of the Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA), with a donation of $800 to go towards the upcoming Feb. 25 event. SIOUX CITY - The Northwest Iowa District Jazz Festival was held at the Sioux City Convention Center on Wednesday, and students from several area schools did very well in the competition. In Class 2A, the South O'Brien Jazz Band took home first place and Alta-Aurelia finished second, qualifying both ensembles for the April 4th State Jazz Contest in Des Moines...
Supervisors receive update on phone system upgrade (02/03/12)
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Tuesday received an update on the phone system upgrade at the Cherokee Communication Center. Cherokee County GIS/IT Coordinator Lindsay Bressler told the Board that the system is up and running. She also indicated that there were still a few bugs to work out as of Tuesday. Bressler stated a couple of lines would disconnect a caller after 30 seconds while on hold...
Cherokee Educational Foundation Benefit Dinner & Auction Feb. 24 (02/03/12)
The Cherokee Educational Foundation's annual Benefit Dinner and Auction is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 on the upper level of the Cherokee Community Center. This enjoyable "evening out" will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour and bidding on several valuable silent auction items. MMC Foundation Dinner a success (02/03/12)
MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Foundation Board was delighted with the success of the third annual appreciation dinner, the program and auction. They want to thank those who participated in attending, donated prizes for the silent auction, and purchased tickets for the Cash is King Raffle. Joan Doris Patrick, 83, of Los Molinos, Calif., passed away Friday December 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. Joan was born to Rafael and Rose Mazza on November 24, 1928, in Marin County, Calif. She married Reginald A. Patrick in 1944, and they lived together in Iowa before relocating to San Rafael, California in 1960 and then to Los Molinos, California in 1973.
