Book signing by Sutherland author (05/07/12)
The Book Vine, 204 W. Main St. in Cherokee, will be having a book signing by an area author on Thursday, May 10. The book, 'Mama & Asha,' is based on the true story of a gray whale and her baby taking refuge in the Klamath, California, river in the summer of 2011. It's a tenderhearted story about the love between a mother gray whale, her baby, and the people who watched them dance and swim and roll in the river...

Native Cherokean Laura Kohn started her new job as the Cherokee County Naturalist last week.Kohn, a 2002 graduate of Cherokee Washington High School, earned her Bachelors Degree in Zoology and Animal Ecology from Iowa State University in 2006. She then interned at Salt Lake City, Utah for the non-profit group Hawk Watch International. Kohn then found seasonal employment with North Dakota Parks and Recreation as an interpreter...

New Cy-Hawk Trophy announced (05/07/12)
The people of Iowa have spoken, and the new design for the Cy-Hawk Trophy is set. Herky the Hawk and Cy the Cardinal are celebrating. Fans of Iowa and Iowa State have selected a design that puts both teams' mascots on the rivalry trophy. The design, a rendering of which can be seen here, shows Herky and Cy standing in a cornfield holding a brass football. Below them, the names of both schools are listed along with engraved plates with the scores of each game...
