Quilt Display part of 'Quimby 125 'celebration (06/07/12)
During the Quimby Quasquicentennial Celebration this summer, community members are encouraged to bring any quilts, particularly of an older vintage, or other wall hangings, to be displayed at the Baptist Church in Quimby. The Quilt Display will be setting up on the evening of June 28th, and the quilts will be displayed throughout the town's celebration, through Sunday July 1. ...
New Way Singers to perform in Cherokee (06/07/12)
Nebraska Christian College is pleased to sponsor a select group of high school students to perform on tour known as the New Way Singers. Special Olympians compete in recent competitions (06/07/12)
Members of the Special Olympics team from Roosevelt Elementary and the Cherokee Middle School team recently headed to Dordt College in Sioux Center to participate in the District track meet. Pig kissing (06/07/12)
Myla Stoneking is pictured giving a big old smoochie kiss to a little piglet as part of a fundraising event held throughout the year at the Cherokee Middle School. The challenge for the students was that the teacher of whichever class raised the most money for the Relay for Life would have to kiss a pig. Stoneking's class raised the most money, so Stoneking put on her lipstick and paid up on the bet, much to the delight of the whole student body. The students raised at total of $480...
Wa-Tan-Ye donation to Library (06/07/12)
The Wa-Tan-Ye Service Organization recently donated $100 to the Cherokee Public Library, to be used by the library as part of its project to digitize back issues of local newspapers dating back to the late 1800's. Braves open season (06/07/12)
The Cherokee Braves opened their 2012 baseball season at home on May 23 against Maurice-Orange City/Floyd Valley with a 14-4 six-inning loss. Cherokee had four runs on five hits and committed three errors. Brett Walker took the loss on the mound for the Braves, who were led offensively by Adam Pitts, who was 3-3 with a single, double and triple, and drove in two runs. ...

Former Washington High School standout Matt Koch was selected in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. The 6-3, 205 lb. right- handed flame-thrower was selected on the third round by the New York Mets, with the 107th overall pick.
