Celebrating 50 Years of 'Caring Hands, Touching Lives' (07/02/12)
Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab. Center, located at 401 West 5th Street in Aurelia, will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary on July 7th and 8th, 2012, and the public is invited to attend two events which have been planned for that weekend. On Saturday July 7th, Sunset Knoll will host its annual Garden Party from 9 - 11 a.m., with tours of the Memory Garden and refreshments available for residents, families, friends and the community. ...
Mummerts donate to Yacht Club (07/02/12)
The Spring Lake Yacht Club Committee gladly accepts In-Kind Contributions. A case in point is the Mummert family donating $12,000 in labor and materials by installing one of their notable stamped concrete patios at the proposed new Yacht Club. The return of 'The Dweebs' (07/02/12)
Cherokee will once again be rockin' with the annual Street Dance on Saturday, July 7 on East Main Street in downtown Cherokee, with gates open at 7 p.m. and the popular, unique band, "The Dweebs" playing until midnight. This year's featured act, "The Dweebs," is a six-piece family rock band based in Wisconsin and travels throughout the United States. ...
Repair work continues on C-38 (07/02/12)
The Cherokee County Secondary Roads Department will be continuing its road work on C-38. However, C-38 will be open for the July 4th holiday and then closed again beginning July 5 and July 6 between L-51 to L40. On July 9, C-38 will be closed between L-40 to L-36 for the following 10 days...
Timmerman family to be honored at Iowa State Fair (07/02/12)
DES MOINES - The Kent and Natasha Timmerman family of Cherokee will be recognized as one of six recipients of The Way We Live Award at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. The family will be honored in an award ceremony on Saturday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m. on the Christensen Farms Stage in the Paul R. Knapp Animal Learning Center. Cherokee Braves clip E-Hawks, 11-10 (07/02/12)
EMMETSBURG - The Cherokee Braves tallied four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 11-5 lead over Emmetsburg here last week, but the E-Hawks battled back in their half of the sixth with five runs of their own to pull within one run at 11-10 before the Braves shut the door in the seventh to pocket the exciting win in 98-degree heat...
South O'Brien boys fall to Hinton bats (07/02/12)
PAULLINA - The South O'Brien boys ran into a hot-hitting Hinton squad in baseball action here on Wednesday, and the Wolverines wound up on the losing end of a 12-7 War Eagle Conference game. The Black Hawks collected 16 hits in the contest. South O'Brien did all right at the plate themselves, though, as the team pounded out 10 hits, including six doubles - two by shortstop Brent Puhrmann and one each by Zane Roberts, Michael Callahan, Sam Weber and Adam Paulsen...
Warrior boys win big in five innings (07/02/12)
Alta-Aurelia had their bats working Thursday night when they played a road game at South Central Calhoun, scoring a 22-5, five-inning victory in the Twin Lakes Conference match-up. The Warriors slugged a pair of homers - one by Neil Marshall and the other by sophomore Cody Cameron - as they scored 22 runs on 14 hits. Marshall also stroked a double, scored four runs, drove in five and stole three bases...
MMC boys win one of three conference games (07/02/12)
The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team won one of three War Eagle Conference games last week, falling 9-0 to Remsen St. Mary's in Marcus, defeating West Sioux in Hawarden 11-6, and losing 6-3 to Orange City Unity Christian in Marcus. Pitcher Tanner Utesch took the loss against St. Mary's, allowing seven earned runs on five hits and one walk in one inning of work. Zach Specht came on in relief to pitch six innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks, with three strikeouts...
