On July 1st, the Cherokee Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) received its new cost share allocation from the Division of Soil Conservation. The Cherokee SWCD offers financial assistance for building grassed waterways, terraces, and water & sediment control basins. Landowners can receive cost share assistance on earthwork, tile installation, and tile outlets. Cost share is limited to $10,000 per landowner per fiscal year...

88 Backpacks for students (08/13/12)
Once again this school year, the Cherokee Rotary Club, in conjunction with Hy-Vee Food Stores, has donated backpacks full of needed school supplies for the elementary school children from low income families. Hy-Vee provides the colorful backpacks and the supplies inside. This year, according to Hy-Vee Store Director Tim Haupert, 88 backpacks were stuffed with supplies and taken to Mid-Sioux Opportunities for distribution to the children...
