Hy-Vee, Casey's annouce fuel savings program (10/29/12)
ANKENY - Hy-Vee, Inc. and Casey's General Stores today announced the launch of a program that will allow customers to save $2 or more per gallon on gasoline purchases at all Hy-Vee and Casey's stores. Rick Mongan is a life-long citizen of Cherokee, and a 1969 graduate of Cherokee Washington High School. He and his wife Bonnie, who is retired from her former employment at the Designing Women embroidery store, have four grown children - sons Matt 37, who lives in Cherokee and is a partner with Rick in the Mongan Painting business; Tracy 37, who lives in Cherokee and is employed by Valero Renewables in Albert City; Nate, 36, who is a Senior Adjustor in the Veterinary Division for the Hartford, and lives in Mead, Nebraska; and daughter, Tori Draper 34, who is employed as a Nurses' Aide at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.. ...

City's Park Maintenance facility plans proceed (10/29/12)
The Cherokee City Council last week approved a series of resolutions finalizing City acceptance of the proposal to purchase $350,000 in General Obligation Capital Loan Notes for various Koser Spring Lake Park improvements. An estimated $250,000 is earmarked for a new maintenance facility for the Cherokee Parks Department, with the remainder targeting Koser Spring Lake Park improvements, including resurfacing of the hiking/biking trail around Spring Lake, new playground equipment, and a proposed outdoor shelter to replace the old one that was dismantled and sold for salvage to make room for the new Yacht Club.. ...

During recent parent/teacher conferences, it was mentioned that the disturbing trend continues of more parents becoming less interested in their children's education. In talking with some teachers, a few admitted that some parents don't even show up for their child's conferences, and that there appears to be more each year...
