The Candymakers to bring sweet sounds to J & B Festival (12/21/12)
Making their first appearance at the Cherokee Jazz and Blues Festival on Saturday, Jan 18 will be the Candymakers. The young blues band from eastern Iowa will be performing at the Cherokee VFW Club from 9 p.m. to midnight, and will also be hosting the Jam Session held earlier that day from noon to 4 p.m. at the Gathering Place...
Roosevelt School roofing project to get underway soon (12/21/12)
One of three sizeable and costly repair projects currently confronting the Cherokee School District will be under way next week following Christmas. The repair projects that will be funded from the District's PPEL revenues are a new roof for the Roosevelt Elementary School's third and fourth grade wing, renovation of the field turf and watering system at George Hicks Field at Washington High School, and repairing or even possibly relocating the deteriorating School/City tennis court complex on East Indian Street.. ...

Saturday morning we were surprised and pleased to have a call from Robt. Rutherford of Gate, Okla. After renewing his subscription and in the course of our conversation we learned that he had been elected representative of Beaver and Harper counties on the democratic ticket. This in spite of the fact that these counties were normally republican by 165 yet he carried them by 41 majority. This victory came direct from the people as he spent only a few hours in the interest of his election...
