Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival History (01/14/13)
The 9th Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival occurred Friday through Sunday, January 2-4, 2009. It was the earliest festival ever, starting only one day into the New Year. CEA seeks 5.7 percent total package increase (01/14/13)
The Cherokee Education Association presented the Cherokee School District its initial proposal for the 2013-2014 Master Contract last week, calling for an approximate 5.7 percent increase in the total package. Citing the fact that health insurance costs have become a major portion of the District's cost for the bargaining unit, the CEA deferred on a firm final figure until it receives the necessary information regarding the cost of insurance premiums for next year...
Local Ag Businesses at Dakota Farm Show (01/14/13)
Marcus business owners Jeff Frederick of Frederick Welding and Sales and Steve Bierman, inventor of the EZ Dual Changer, manned two of the more than 550 booths at last week's Dakota Farm Show in Vermillion, S.D. Last Tuesday, the Wolverines hosted Kingsley-Pierson and the teams played a pretty even game throughout, except for the third quarter, when the Panthers, led by their outstanding senior Colin Henrich, outscored RV by an 18-10 margin. EMMETSBURG - The rolling Cherokee Washington High girls basketball team won their third game in four tries since the holiday break, claiming a 47-40 Lakes Conference win over Emmetsburg here Friday night. The WHS lasses busted out to a 19-7 lead in the first quarter and needed every bit of that bulge throughout as they could not cash in on any free throws in the game and finished with an icy 1-15 effort from the line and many of those the front ends of a 1-1 situation...
Braves wrestle in RV double dual (01/14/13)
HOLSTEIN -The Cherokee Braves dropped a competitive wrestling double dual here Thursday night, falling 45-32 to host Ridge View, and 48-24 to Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. MMC beat Ridge View 51-21 to win the meet. Nicole Barry and Justin Cave to wed (01/14/13)
Mike and Caryn Barry and Bob and Sue Cave, all of Marcus, are proud to announce the engagement of their children, Nicole Barry and Justin Cave. Both are graduates of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School. Nicole graduated from the University of South Dakota in December of 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and a minor in speech communication studies.
