The largest source of power is coal, which, even though it produces less than 40% of the power, produces over 70% of the power sector's greenhouse gas emissions. STORM LAKE - Sixteen teams competed at the Storm Lake Cross Country Invitational Meet here on Tuesday, with Algona coming out on top of the Boys varsity 5k team standings and Maurice-Orange City/Floyd Valley winning the Girls varsity 4k team meet. MOVILLE - Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn and South O'Brien each took athletes to the Woodbury Central Invitational Cross Country meet here this week. A total of 63 runners competed n the varsity boys' 5k race and 66 runners in the varsity girls' 4k race. The South O'Brien varsity boys came close to winning the team title, but were edged out by one point, 56-57, by champion Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, and the South O'Brien varsity girls finished in 8th place in the team standings...

At approximently 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Cherokee Police Department responded to an alarm that was set off at Royer's Jewelry Store in downtown Cherokee. Upon arriving, they discovered that the break-in was caused by a deer that had entered the stairwell through a glass walk-in door leading to the upstairs of the business. The young buck had fled to that location after previously entering the Cardsmart Store, located directly across the street...
