Cherokee Master Gardener volunteers rated second in state

The Iowa State University Extension recently announced that Cherokee County placed second in their list of top ten counties in Iowa for volunteer hours in its Master Gardener program. The six volunteers logged in a total of 393.50 hours with an average of 65.58 hours per person. Mary Tuttle from the Cherokee County ISU Extension revived the Master Gardener Program earlier this year. The small but enthusiastic group reflects the giving nature of many within Cherokee County...

Jim Leonard, Physical Education teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, accepted a check on behalf of the school from Christi Carstens, member of the Ben Carstens family, which gave a check in the amount of $2,850 to the school on Thursday, funds from the recent Uncle Ben Fun Run.
