The Summer Olympic Games are over, and the athletes created many exciting, memorable and record-breaking moments. Two Olympians in particular, both of whom have stated that 2016 was their final Olympics, have left their mark on the history of the Summer Games - the USA's Michael Phelps, with his 28 medals - 23 of them gold - over the course of 16 years and five different Olympic Games; and Jamaica's Usain Bolt, winner of the same three events at each of the last three Olympics...

You might say life's chute gate opened for 2015 Miss Rodeo Iowa Hannah Hilsabeck after a chance encounter with a nice young man at a rodeo six years ago eventually led her to the Cherokee area and a promising future all laid out. Engaged to be married in October to fiance Colton Barnes of the Barnes Family Rodeo fame, an ambitious Hannah today lives in Sutherland with Colton, who farms with his parents John and Cindy Barnes... -
City moves forward on bond

The Cherokee City Council took a step toward passing $2,025,000 in general obligation bonds at the Aug. 23 meeting, but the council has not yet committed to taking this action nor has the council approved the demolition of the former Wilson School building. The building is abandoned, has sections of roof fallen in and other structural damage, as well as mold covering surfaces...
