A dozen Cherokee County 4-H members recently competed at the Iowa Equine Extravaganza in March at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. Acknowledging academic achievement We were taken to task recently by a concerned mother questioning our policy on publishing the names of college and university Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List students. She wondered if we were guilty of picking and choosing who to leave in and who to leave out, saying, “These kids work hard for their grades and deserve the same recognition as others.”...

CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley School District has approved a $2.13 million building and remodeling project at facilities in Correctionville and Washta. Work will include renovation of elementary classrooms in Washta and the addition of a practice gym at the high school in Correctionville. The Cherokee Symphony recently held auditions for the Student Soloist Concert to be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 at the Cherokee Community Center.
