Cindy Alcorn Cancer Benefit September 2 (Local News ~ 08/25/17)
Cindy Alcorn, wife of Ed Alcorn of Cleghorn, was recently diagnosed with Sarcomatoid Malignant Mesothelioma, the least common and most aggressive of cancers. Cindy is currently undergoing nine weeks of chemotherapy in Sioux City, and following the completion of her chemo treatments, she will go to the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she will undergo a 10 - to - 12 hour “Specialized Debulking Surgery with Heated Chemotherapy Bath,” a procedure which is performed by just two surgeons in the United States, both of whom are located in Houston.. ... -

It’s not too early to take out papers for City Election

Municipal elections will take place on Nov. 7 in towns across Iowa. The filing period is Aug. 28 to Sept. 21 so there won’t be any filing until Aug. 28, but nomination petitions are available through city clerks and the county auditor’s office. Diane Cargin, Cherokee City Clerk, said some interest has been expressed in elective city offices but it will not be known who will be on the ballot until the filing deadline is over. ...
