Christmas Parade Dec. 7 (Local News ~ 12/11/17)
The annual Wonderful World of Christmas Lighted Parade in Cherokee was held on the evening of December 7th this year. Mollie Loughlin was voted in as "Scrooge" this year, and served as the Grand Marshal of the Parade. -
Mayoral transition going smoothly

The transition period regarding the completion of Cherokee Mayor Mark Murphy’s term and the beginning of Mayor-elect Craig Schmidt’s first term is going well, according to City Administrator Sam Kooiker. Both men are working closely with the City staff and other community officials to make the transition as smooth as possible. Schmidt is retired and pledges he is willing to be a “full-time” Mayor. They come from the northern plains of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin—braves with woman and children in tow. Dogs and women alike pulling travoises behind them, heavily laden with food, supplies and buffalo hides. They cut groves along a path that has been used for over a century.
