Such a busy month! The entire city is buzzing with activity and lots of interesting and engaging things to do. From craft fairs and merchant days (shop locally!) to cookie sales and Toys for Tots (YAY to our local businesses and all the generous contributors – and especially for the wrapping skills of our city Police Department!)...

Out of gas - and patience

For as many as 50 years, fuel prices in the City of Cherokee have averaged higher than every other town around, from Sioux City to Merrill to Le Mars to Marcus, to Aurelia to Alta to Storn Lake and beyond. And for just as many years area residents have complained, pleaded, sent letters, and personally cajoled gas station employees (not their fault), management (perhaps) and ownership (definitely) to get their gas prices competitive - not lower than! - but simply competitive with surrounding towns.. ...

Steppin’ on the gas

Every day of the year hundreds of gallons of gasoline are pumped into vehicles from Cherokee County. Out of town. Why? Because Cherokee is and has been for years known for its high gas prices compared to surrounding towns. The issue has festerd locally for more than 50 years and finally, City Hall and the current administration are trying to do something about it by seeking answers to an age-old question that has forced hundreds of local motorists to go out of town for their gas, and also their dining, shopping and entertainmment while there.. ...

Landfill closed Saturdays

The Cherokee Landfill will now be closed every Saturday during the winter months. The Landfill will re-open on Saturdays beginning in April 2018.

Cherokee boys split a pair of games (High School Sports ~ 12/13/17)
The Cherokee boys' basketball team recently split a pair of games on the road, with a 80-39 loss against LeMars and a 63-41 victory over the Ridge View Raptors. On Friday, the young Braves' team faced off against a tough LeMars team that started five seniors. The experience of the Bulldogs seemed to be too much for the Braves to handle as LeMars got off to a 26-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 42-20 lead by halftime... -
